Traffic Incident Reporting

Miscellaneous Article

Author: John Downe

Published: Friday, 1st February 2013

The Parish Council's Highways and Transport Committee are keen to build up a more complete database of traffic incidents occurring on our Parish roads and lanes to be used in their campaigns for highways improvements

Currently the issue we have is that official records only detail incidents involving personal injuries but it is well known that there are many other accidents which therefore go unrecorded.

The Council would much appreciate it if you would use this "Speak Out" topic to record incidents which you see on any of the Parish highways. For the purposes of this exercise an incident is defined as where one or more vehicles cause any damage to themselves or roadside property - from a broken door mirror to a vehicle skidding off the road.

As a reminder if you witness anti-social driving behaviour or recklessness in Sussex which doesn't result in actual damage Sussex Police have a facility to report this confidentially with a link on the Hoathly Hub (use the "I Want to..." button at the top of the page or just use the direct link below). You are encouraged to use this for speeding, noisy exhausts, dangerous manoeuvres and so on but you will need a vehicle registration number as a minimum.

Please make sure if your record an incident below to include the location, the date/time, a brief description of what happened and your view of the cause. Please stick to specific incidents you have either seen or of which you have seen the aftermath rather than general road safety issues.

Residents of the Parish can sign-in to comment on this article.
