The Theatre Goers Group was started in January 2009 in order to provide a group for people who enjoy going to the theatre but may not have someone to go with - although we also welcome couples.

The group has a committee consisting of Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, two venue bookers and a transport co-ordinator. We meet usually every 2-3 months and discuss the events to be held at Chequer Mead, The Hawth, Brighton and Eastbourne theatres and Tunbridge Wells. We try to keep our chosen programme varied so we may have an opera, a ballet, a musical, a dramatic play, an ice show, a well known singing star, a tribute band, or a "That'll Be The Day" Show, which features music from the 50's and 60's.

In fact we are open to anything any of our members suggest. In the summer we have visited Hever Castle and Nymans for Gilbert & Sullivan or Shakespeare performances, we try to do a visit to Camden Market a couple of times a year and in summer 2010 we even planned a picnic on Ashdown Forest.

All members meet a couple of times a year so that we can discuss what we would like to do.

Membership is £12 a year, or £1 per month, depending on what time of year you join. We currently have about 33 members but non-members are also welcome to join us to see whether they would be interested in joining.

When we have had our meeting to decide on the programme, details are emailed or posted to all the members. We decide on the date and time of performance. Members then contact one of the venue organisers to put their name down. Once there is enough interest in a show the tickets are purchased and ticket money collected from the members. The transport organiser then agrees who will be driving and who is travelling in which cars to that show. The total transport cost is then shared.

Autumn Programme - October - December 2011

The following is the current programme for the autumn.  The Booked Outings tickets have already been purchased but we will be happy to book additional tickets should you wish to attend, however, you will need to inform us as soon as possible otherwise we cannot guarantee obtaining tickets for the dates and times already booked.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our summer get together due to many people being away.  We have been unable to re-arrange but will try and organise something before Christmas.

Many of our planned venues did not go ahead due to lack of interest.  It is very important that, if you are interested in any items in our programme, you register your interest with our organisers as soon as possible.

'Dreamboats & Petticoats' - The smash hit musical direct from the West End. 50's and 60's music. Wednesday 9th November at 8pm at The Hawth Crawley. Tickets £27 each.
Verdi's 'La Traviata' - performed by Ukrainian National Opera of Kharkiv on Wednesday 30th November at 7.30 pm at The Assembly Halls Tunbridge Wells. Tickets £35 each.

Up and coming venues to be booked:

We have a few people interested in 'That'll Be The Day' at the Hawth on Tuesday 4th October.  This show is very popular and there are not many seats left.  If you are interested in going please let our organisers know as soon as possible so that we can arrange seats.

Crawley Operatic Society are performing 'Calamity Jane' at The Hawth on 26th to 29th October.  Ticket prices are £15.  Please let Bev Mager on 810164 know if you are interested.

We are taking names for the Christmas Pantomime at The Hawth.  This year it is 'Peter Pan' with Nigel Havers as Captain Hook.  These shows are usually good fun and we are all allowed to become children again.  We are planning to book the evening performance on Tuesday 13th December.  If you are interested please let us know by the end of September at the latest as these shows get booked up very quickly.

Our proposed trip to 'Brick Lane Music Hall' has been postponed until next year.  It is still on the agenda.

We will be organising our January to March programme shortly and will let you know what shows will be on offer.

If you are interested in any of the above please contact
Bev Mager on 01342 810164, Gary Coxall on 01342 810697 or Marion Jones on 01342 810143

If you have any preferences or can suggest some shows please let us know in good time. We have had one or two suggestions but, unfortunately, time is not on our side as the dates are very close.
