The Theatre Goers Group was started in January 2009 in order to provide a group for people who enjoy going to the theatre but may not have someone to go with - although we also welcome couples.
The group has a committee consisting of Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, two venue bookers and a transport co-ordinator. We meet usually every 2-3 months and discuss the events to be held at Chequer Mead, The Hawth, Brighton and Eastbourne theatres and Tunbridge Wells. We try to keep our chosen programme varied so we may have an opera, a ballet, a musical, a dramatic play, an ice show, a well known singing star, a tribute band, or a "That'll Be The Day" Show, which features music from the 50's and 60's.
In fact we are open to anything any of our members suggest. In the summer we have visited Hever Castle and Nymans for Gilbert & Sullivan or Shakespeare performances, we try to do a visit to Camden Market a couple of times a year and in summer 2010 we even planned a picnic on Ashdown Forest.
All members meet a couple of times a year so that we can discuss what we would like to do.

Membership is £12 a year, or £1 per month, depending on what time of year you join. We currently have about 33 members but non-members are also welcome to join us to see whether they would be interested in joining.
When we have had our meeting to decide on the programme, details are emailed or posted to all the members. We decide on the date and time of performance. Members then contact one of the venue organisers to put their name down. Once there is enough interest in a show the tickets are purchased and ticket money collected from the members. The transport organiser then agrees who will be driving and who is travelling in which cars to that show. The total transport cost is then shared.
