Welcome to the Hub!

sponsored by West Hoathly Parish Council.

The Hoathly Hub is the gateway to information about everything to do with living in the Parish of West Hoathly. It has developed rapidly over the last few months and continues to evolve. We love to hear from you, so please let us know what you think.

To access the current information, just click on any coloured circle (hot spot) to display an information panel, or click on a picture to visit another local website.

To stay informed you need to register with the Hub - we promise to take great care of your personal data. You will then be sent our weekly News Digest by email (unless you choose otherwise) and we will send an occasional email to let you know when urgent news has been added to the Hub (for example, unplanned road closures).

To be the first to know, you could also become a fan of
our Facebook page, subscribe to our RSS feed,
or follow us on Twitter!

  • Exciting Progress on Parish Council Projects!

The Parish Assembly last Monday heard the announcement of significant developments in our parish. Unfortunately not many parishioners were there at this annual public meeting to hear all the news, so I thought I would use this Blog to draw them to your attention. The presentation used at the Assembly is also available to view.

  • Amazing fact about West Hoathly Parish housing!

Last week I looked on the rightmove.com website to see the homes available here. 16 homes were for sale and available (ie not yet under offer or subject to contract). The average price was £931,000! 4 were above £1m; without those the average was £600,000. If the 10 "nearly sold" are included the average was still £770,000! Just one home is shown as available below £300,000. This snapshot of our local housing market illustrates the issue we have with the scarcity of starter / lower-priced homes.

We are putting up the subs after many years of keeping the price low so it will now cost £5 for the year or £1 for one copy. I hope you agree it is still good value. Please have subs ready when you receive your June/July issue.
For next issue please send any articles on your World Cup memories from previous years--deadline May 12th.
Don't forget to be planning your scarecrow and decorated hat/fancy dress for the street fair and bring any saleable books to our stall on the day or drop them at Kathy Brown's house in advance if you are not here on the day. Thank you, Kathy.

  • Dog Walking service needed

We are away from home a few days every month and our elderly parents are now too frail to walk our equally elderly beagle. We need someone who could take Wolfy for a short walk on an occasional basis. He walks very slowly! He is usually walked around Finche Field and would need to be picked up from near to the Vinol's Cross.
Please phone Joy on 01342 810344.

    at: West Hoathly School

The changes planned by WSCC Highways for the Vinols Cross junction road layout will be on public display plus the opportunity to ask them questions about the scheme. The scheme will be carried out in the council year 2015-16 and is designed to improve safety for pedestrians crossing Top Road and accessing the north-bound bus stop and to contribute to the long-term changes along the C319. It stems from the many discussions with West Hoathly Parish Council over the last couple of years. Please come along!

  • Searching for a Coomber cousin [received via Facebook]

I'm looking for a cousin I've never met who I suspect lived in Burgess Hill around the year 2000. I believe our mothers were sisters who fell out about the time Pauline and I were born and never had contact again. She would be in her 60s now and is called Pauline Coomber (nee Dennis), husband Thomas Coomber. They were listed then as living at 31 Bramber Way although various other people seem to have lived there since. She may have a daughter called Ellen. I can find no obvious trace of them on the web since then. I'd be really grateful if anyone knows them or has any ideas for finding Pauline or Thomas. I live in N E Scotland so can't exactly just pop round to ask!
    Many thanks, Roger White.

This year I am participating in the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research. Those of you who know me will know that it is no mean feat for a 50 something female to be running 5k! I am now in training and would like to raise £500 for this very worthwhile cause so if you can spare a £ or 2 please text KRGO69 followed by £ and your amount with no spaces to 70070 and give whatever you can.
A massive thank you to all who have already sponsored me and donated to Race For Life. Sue Young
