Welcome to the Hub!

sponsored by West Hoathly Parish Council.

The Hoathly Hub is the gateway to information about everything to do with living in the Parish of West Hoathly. It has developed rapidly over the last few months and continues to evolve. We love to hear from you, so please let us know what you think.

To access the current information, just click on any coloured circle (hot spot) to display an information panel, or click on a picture to visit another local website.

To stay informed you need to register with the Hub - we promise to take great care of your personal data. You will then be sent our weekly News Digest by email (unless you choose otherwise) and we will send an occasional email to let you know when urgent news has been added to the Hub (for example, unplanned road closures).

To be the first to know, you could also become a fan of
our Facebook page, subscribe to our RSS feed,
or follow us on Twitter!

The Scourge of Fallow Deer more...

  • The Scourge of Fallow Deer

Having read the various reports about fallow deer and the danger they pose for cars and their drivers, I thought that some people may be interested in my take on the subject (see link, below).
Many people are just not really aware of the insidious threat these creatures represent to the beauty of our countryside, especially our local landscape and the fauna and flora it supports.

Timber Harvesting on the Gravetye Estate more...

  • Timber Harvesting on the Gravetye Estate

Timber harvesting work is scheduled to begin shortly on the Gravetye Estate. Initially the work will begin near the Kingscote end of the estate and will work its way south from there, finishing in the Sharpthorne woods about 3-5 weeks later. The contract is due to start after the bank holiday and should be completed by the end of September.
During the harvesting work certain areas will closed off for safety reasons. Therefore members of the public are advised to observe any warning signs and instructions from machine operators and not to approach working machinery.
A harvesting machine will thin crops of Corsican pine by removing a percentage of the trees. This will afford the remaining trees more space and light in which to grow further and the timber produced will go into local chipwood and fencing markets.
Any further questions can be directed to Ian Bromley at the Forestry Commission on 01622 783005.
